“MarmaRUN We Are Running in the Bosphorus” Event was Held with High Participation

The “MarmaRUN Running in the Bosphorus” race, organized for the 5th time this year by the Marmara University Alumni Office (Mezof), took place on Sunday, October 8, in international status, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the Republic. The race was officially started by Marmara University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt.

The race began in front of Anadolu Hisarı Küçüksu Pavilion, continued along the coast, turned back at Çubuklu Pier, and ended again in front of the pavilion. It was open to participants over 18 years old. In the MarmaRUN race, İrem Can Ayaz won first place in the men's general classification for the 10K run, while Ezgi Kesgin Hacca won first place in the women's general classification.

The 10K and 5K runs, held in the unique atmosphere of the Bosphorus, brought together numerous students and sports enthusiasts. At the award ceremony held in Küçüksu Meadow, prizes were presented to 108 individuals who placed in various categories. Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt highlighted that the 140-year-old university has been a leading institution in national and international sports achievements and that the MarmaRUN organization is taking significant steps towards becoming an international brand in the Republic's 100th year.

Prof. Dr. Kurt expressed his thanks to all supporters, emphasizing that the race, which included the participation of Marmara University faculty members, alumni, students, and citizens, was a wonderful event for race enthusiasts. He underlined the importance of such sports organizations for the socialization of young people through sports and stated that such events should continue to increase.

The Alumni Office Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Bülent Yılmaz, who initiated the MarmaRUN project in 2018, expressed great satisfaction in organizing such an event. Prof. Dr. Yılmaz stated, “In the 100th year of our Republic, the 10K section of the MarmaRUN race was held for the first time with international status. From now on, it will be featured on the international stage.” Emphasizing their increased responsibilities, Yılmaz added, “We are thrilled to announce this beautiful Bosphorus course in Istanbul to athletes worldwide with its international status.” Highlighting their success in combining the beauty of the Bosphorus with sports, Bülent Yılmaz mentioned, “This year, the race was even more colorful with the participation of students representing university clubs. From now on, the MarmaRUN race will take place in both the 10K and 5K categories.”

The event was also attended by Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çelen, Director of the Institute of Educational Sciences Prof. Dr. Mustafa Uslu, Director of the Institute of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. İclal Atilla, and Director of the Continuing Education Center Assoc. Prof. Dr. Talat İnan.
