Marmara University carries out various local trainings and events with the aim of raising environmental awareness and a conscious society within the framework of climate change occurring in the world. It provides detailed trainings in areas such as global climate change, possible risks, effects, strategies, adaptation processes and early assessment and warning systems. These trainings are open not only to students but also to the local community. It also aims to appeal to the whole society. The aims of Marmara University Centre for Environmental Studies are; carrying out interdisciplinary, scientific and applied researches on environmental issues and their solutions, increasing public awareness about environmental problems and, publicizing scientific findings and recommendations. Center conducts scientific and applied researches on environmental issues and their solutions by the help of qualified researchers from various departments of Marmara University.  Also experts with other institutions and researhers from other centers to conduct researches, experimental investigations and survey researches to achieve scientific findings related to environmental issues. Also Center supports experts on these issues from in and abroad about conducting seminars, and cooperates with related institutions and centers in and abroad. Moreover, provides educational and training opportunities for future scholars of environmental sciences, publishes its objectives and duties. In addition, Center announces scinetific advises and demands so that legal and administrative measures can be taken by those concerned. Duties, Responsibilities and Authority

 -  Cooperate with related institutions and centers in and abroad,
 - Provide educational and training opportunities for future scholars of environmental sciences, contribute to post-graduate studies,
 - Publish the objectives and duties of the Center,
 - Announce scientific advises and demands to those concerned so that legal and administrative measures can be taken .

Climate Change Seminar

The aim of our event is to draw attention to climate change, one of the biggest problems in today's world. We aim to raise awareness about climate change and share ways to combat climate change. The target audience of our event is everyone who wants to learn about climate change, especially Marmara University students.

Nature Walk

Nature walks are walks that are carried out in different geographies of nature, with different levels of difficulty and for different durations. As the name suggests, nature walks are carried out in nature or in areas with natural beauty. The places where these walks can be carried out vary depending on the type of walk. The target audience of the event is Marmara University students.

Climate Change and Finance Summit

The main goal of this summit is to explain the role of finance and the importance of this role in eliminating the effects of climate change and creating a sustainable future. The summit focused on green finance, reducing carbon footprint and economic strategies to reduce the problems caused by climate change. All experts, academics, industrialists and policy makers who participated in the summit comprehensively examined the latest developments on the effects of climate change and what needs to be done in this context and made recommendations. In addition, project financing and investment opportunities for a green future within the framework of SDGs were evaluated and solution focuses were investigated at this summit. This summit provided a comprehensive platform opportunity to reveal the damages, effects and important steps taken in combating problems caused by climate change and the effective role of the finance sector in this context. In this way, Marmara University has offered important solutions to raise awareness and produce significant solutions within the scope of combating climate change.

 

European Green Deal: Sustainability and Turkey's Situation

In this conference titled “European Green Deal: Sustainability and Turkey’s Situation”, the risks that may arise in the fight against climate change, the effects of climate change, the reduction of these effects, adaptation processes, local education plans and action policies were evaluated. In addition, a sustainable climate and Turkey’s role in climate change were also discussed.

Marmara University attaches importance to combating climate change and in this context, a course curriculum including climate change issues has been prepared and put into practice to be given to students in classes. Thus, seminars, conferences, events, trips and workshops are organized in order to provide information and awareness to students studying in different fields about combating climate change.

Bee Day and Biodiversity

The global climate crisis, one of the biggest problems of today's world, was brought to attention by combining May 20 Bee Day and May 22 Biodiversity Day and hosting various academics who are experts in these subjects. The extinction of bees due to the climate crisis can cause a chain reaction of imbalance in the ecosystem and many other problems. For this reason, this event was held so that everyone can fulfill their responsibilities and gain awareness for the protection of bees and biodiversity.

I Love the Earth, I Recycle

The purpose of this event is to convey to our participants in detail what recycling is. We aimed to encourage our participants to live a sustainable life by conveying how recycling can be incorporated into daily life. In our event, we examined recycling and sustainability from an artistic perspective as well as from a basic perspective. The target audience of our event is primarily Marmara University students and people interested in recycling and sustainability.

Green Chemistry Conference

Green Chemistry is a new principle based on a dozen principles, including solutions that will eliminate current pollution problems. Our aim is to prepare Chemistry and Chemical Engineering students for the developing and growing Chemistry sector while protecting our nature. In this context, it is aimed to convey Green Chemistry and its principles to the participants one-on-one by experts in the field.

Change Yourself, Not the Climate!

The aim of our event is to create climate awareness among our participants. In our event, we aim to touch upon what the climate crisis is, what we can do against the climate crisis, and examining the climate crisis in terms of human and children's rights. The target audience of our event is primarily the members of the Marmara University Natural Life Protection Club, as well as Marmara University students.

Planting Saplings on National Afforestation Day

Marmara University Geography Club is organizing a sapling planting event with its students to leave a gift to the future on the National Afforestation Day, the 100th anniversary of our Republic. The aim is for the saplings planted to grow enough to breathe into these lands in the future and for future generations to follow in the footsteps of us young people and plant more saplings to enlarge our green areas.

Climate Change Focused Planning Course

This course aims to provide students with a general perspective on climate change and a broad set of competencies in climate change-focused planning. The topics included in the course are as follows: fundamental concepts of climate change, climate projections, national and international frameworks for climate change, impacts and risk analyses of climate change, greenhouse gas emission inventories, adaptation and mitigation strategies, climate finance, and climate change-focused planning.

In addition, as an institution at Marmara University, it organizes local education programs or campaigns on climate change risks, effects, mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.

 

Marmara University Participation in Kadıköy Municipality Environmental Festival

Marmara University Civil Society Organizations Research and Application Center (STKAM) took part in the Kadıköy Municipality Environmental Festival in 2023. This festival was organized by STKAM to present the importance of combating climate change and solutions to environmental problems. STKAM shared academic knowledge to reflect environmental awareness to society with the help of different panels, seminars and workshops they organized. The festival was organized by Kadıköy Municipality and within the framework of this important event, important steps and trainings were implemented for sustainability and an environmentally friendly future.

This meaningful event, which was held within the University of Marmara, provided meaningful information exchange and ideas on sustainable finance, combating climate change, solution opportunities and steps. In addition, all participants in the event focused on information sharing, idea generation and strategic planning processes on a sustainable future and combating climate change, thus raising awareness in society.

 

Marmara University, by carrying out such educational programs and campaigns on creating a sustainable future and a green world, not only achieves academic success but also makes significant and meaningful contributions to the development of environmental awareness in society. The activities, projects and studies carried out to combat climate change and raise awareness for a green world and to reduce the effects of climate change to minimum levels reveal the university's responsibility and sensitivity to society.

In this context, Marmara University's local educational programs and campaigns on climate change are of great importance both in academic and social areas.
