Marmara University Educational Outreach Activities
Marmara University carries out educational outreach activities outside the campus. These activities designed to engage the wider community, including alumni, local residents, and displaced people. Such projects generally aim to increase interaction with the society and to popularize education. Additionally, Marmara University ensures that its courses are accessible to everyone, regardless of ethnic background, disability status, migration status, or gender.
What is Volunteering? Why Should One Volunteer? Conference
- A conference entitled “What is Volunteering? Why Should One Volunteer?” was delivered by Mr. İnal Aydınoğlu, Founder of the Voluntary Service Foundation, at the Conference Hall of Building K1, Faculty of Economics. The session emphasized the social and community benefits of volunteering, encouraging active civic engagement and fostering a culture of social responsibility, contributing to SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by promoting inclusive participation and sustainable social practices.
Sustainability Literacy Training
- As part of the Digital Skills Trainings organized by the Directorate General for Innovation and Educational Technologies of the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye, Prof. Dr. Esra Yüksel Acı delivered a “Sustainability Literacy” training. The session provided participants with foundational knowledge on sustainability concepts and practices, highlighting the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainable development, and contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by fostering awareness and understanding of sustainability principles.
Green Skills, Digital Skills, and Professions Training
- As part of the Digital Skills Trainings organized by the Directorate General for Innovation and Educational Technologies of the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye, Prof. Dr. Esra Yüksel Acı delivered a “Green Skills, Digital Skills, and Professions” training. The session highlighted the integration of digital and green competencies in modern professions, emphasizing sustainable practices and innovative skill development, contributing to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by fostering awareness of future-oriented and sustainable workforce skills.
Sustainability 101: Environmental, Social, and Economic Dimensions of Sustainability Seminar
- Civil Society Organizations Research and Application Center Coordinator Prof. Dr. Esra Yüksel Acı delivered a seminar entitled “Sustainability 101: Environmental, Social, and Economic Dimensions of Sustainability” within the scope of the SoluSion Events organized by Notre Dame de Sion French High School.
Payment and Electronic Money Institutions and Their Impact on Sustainability Seminar
- In collaboration with the Green Economy and Sustainability Club of Marmara University and STKAM, a seminar entitled “Payment and Electronic Money Institutions and Their Impact on Sustainability” was held at the Faculty of Economics. Ms. Şule Çokakoğlu Ceritoğlu, Assistant Expert at the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, participated as the guest speaker, offering a comprehensive perspective on the relationship between financial technologies, electronic payment systems, and sustainability. The seminar highlighted how innovative payment solutions and the rise of electronic money institutions contribute to reducing environmental impacts by minimizing paper usage and fostering digital transformation. Furthermore, it underlined the importance of responsible financial practices in supporting social inclusion and promoting equitable access to economic resources. The seminar contributed to the advancement of SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by underlining the benefits of digitalization and sustainable financial systems.
EDU YESK Summer School Trainings
- As part of the EDU YESK Summer School, organized in collaboration with the Marmara University Green Economy and Sustainability Club, STKAM, Marmara University Alumni and Academics Association (MÜMAD1883+), and Nihad Sayar Education Foundation (NiSEV), a series of sustainability-focused trainings were conducted for over 1,000 participants across multiple sessions. Turkish Language and Mathematics Classes for Visually Impaired Students at Altı Nokta Körler Vakfı
- Mathematics and Turkish lessons continue through the cooperation of the Disabled Student Unit Coordination, Altı Nokta Blind Foundation, Accessible and Inclusive Life Association, Atatürk Faculty of Education Primary School Mathematics Department, volunteer students, and students enrolled in the Community Service Course. During the third term of private lessons, most students preparing for the EKPSS exam and teacher candidates gain practical teaching experience with visually impaired learners while preparing for their professional careers. Simultaneously, the trainees enhance their own exam readiness, fostering both inclusive education and professional development. Raising Awareness in Sustainability and the Green Economy Training for High School Students
- As part of the Social and Scientific Collaboration Protocol between Marmara University’s Civil Society Organizations Application and Research Center (STKAM) and Istanbul Anatolian High School, training sessions on “Raising Awareness in Sustainability and the Green Economy” have been delivered to high school students since September 26, 2023. Conducted with the support of university volunteers, these sessions aim to enhance students’ understanding of sustainability concepts, green economic practices, and responsible consumption, and will continue for a two-year period. The initiative contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by fostering sustainability awareness among young learners. - As part of the Social and Scientific Collaboration Protocol between Marmara University’s Civil Society Organizations Application and Research Center (STKAM) and Kadıköy Hayrullah Kefoğlu Anatolian High School, training sessions on “Sustainability and Literacy in Sustainable Development Goals” for 12th-grade students began on October 6, 2023, while sessions on “Climate Change, Sustainability, Green, and Digital Skills” for 10th-grade students began on October 21, 2023. Conducted with the support of university volunteers, these trainings aim to strengthen students’ knowledge of sustainability concepts, climate action, green and digital competencies, and responsible environmental practices. The initiative will continue for two years and contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by fostering awareness and skills for sustainable development among young learners. Open Access Courses
Marmara University actively utilizes its YouTube channel for various purposes. Primarily, it allows the sharing of educational content by providing videos of university courses, seminars, conferences, and academic events to both students and external audiences who wish to benefit from them. Additionally, the channel offers informative videos for prospective students, showcasing the university’s campuses, departments, academic programs, and social facilities. It also aims to reach a wide audience by broadcasting or sharing recordings of significant events such as symposiums, conferences, panels, and graduation ceremonies. Through social responsibility projects and videos focused on community benefit, the YouTube channel seeks to raise awareness among local residents and students. Marmara University Lifelong Learning Center
Marmara University Lifelong Learning Center (MÜSEM) undertakes various tasks aimed at promoting lifelong learning. Firstly, it designs and develops educational programs in different fields to enhance individuals' professional skills and knowledge levels. Additionally, it offers certification programs that provide participants with expertise in specific areas while organizing trainings and seminars aimed at raising social awareness. MÜSEM collaborates with public institutions, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations to diversify educational opportunities. By keeping track of developments in the field of education, the center conducts research and development activities on continuous education and teaching methods. MÜSEM monitors the effectiveness of its educational programs, gathers feedback, and continuously works to improve these programs. Furthermore, it provides information and consultancy services regarding education to individuals and institutions while supporting different learning methods through online and face-to-face training options. These tasks aim to assist individuals in continuously improving themselves and contributing to their careers, which is the primary goal of MÜSEM.
