Support for Low-Carbon Innovation

Marmara University has implemented many activities within the scope of support for Low Carbon Innovation. In addition, it supports Low Carbon Innovation supported projects and entrepreneurships by establishing many units within itself. In this context, Marmara University aims to transform Low Carbon Innovation entrepreneurships into a sustainable system for a green world.

Assistance to Entrepreneurs Supporting Low Carbon Economy and Technologies

Marmara University's BiGG (Individual Young Entrepreneur) Program offers various aids to entrepreneurs who support low-carbon economy and technologies. Operating since 2014, Marmara University Technopark Inc. has designed the Mx BİGG Marmara program consisting of the “Maturation” and “Improvement” stages in cooperation with Okan University in order to ensure that more entrepreneurial candidates are supported by TÜBİTAK by using the knowledge and experience it has. In the “Maturation” stage, candidates will be able to develop their business ideas in terms of technological superiority and commercialization potential by receiving training specially prepared for the BİGG program and conducting intensive one-on-one mentor meetings. When the “Improvement” stage is passed, “Leader Mentor” appointments will be made to provide one-on-one support to the candidates and prepare their business plans. At the end of this process, business plans will be brought to the most ideal level. Here are some of the supports provided within this scope:

Marmara Innovation Technology and Transfer Office

As Marmara Innovation Technology and Transfer Office (MITTO), MİTTO; It ensures that all activities are carried out in the fields of gathering domestic and international supports within the scope of scientific research and lifelong learning under a single roof within the scope of the national science, technology and innovation strategy, announcing national and international scientific support opportunities, creating university-level solutions for all problems encountered during project applications, restructuring of projects that are requested for revision or rejected, monitoring supported projects and carrying out their financial management, providing support on legal and technical issues at every stage of the research and development process, encouraging scientific research, and providing administrative and legal consultancy for the purpose of licensing and commercialization of the intellectual property outputs of the projects by introducing them to investors. As MİTTO, we aim to position our institution within the entrepreneurship ecosystem within the framework of our own values ​​and continue our activities in this direction. In line with this goal, we provide services to our academic staff, students and other entrepreneurship interested parties in our area of ​​influence within the scope of Entrepreneurship and Incorporation Activities. Our main service, the foundations of which were laid in 2016, is the MİTTO Pre-Incubation Program. The program, supported by the TÜBİTAK 1601 Project in 2018-2019, received entrepreneurship training and mentoring services from Mentors Network Turkey. Three of our teams that received this service were incorporated in 2018-2019. Five teams gained the right to enter BİGG implementing organizations and other top entrepreneurship formations. Our other services within the scope of Entrepreneurship and Incorporation Activities are awareness events/trainings, B2B consultancy service for our prospective students and academic staff, information about BİGG Individual Young Entrepreneurship Program and referral to implementing organizations, and we plan and continue our activities with a boutique service approach. MİTTO has undertaken this task in accordance with the mission of Marmara University to increase the competitiveness of the Turkish economy from the University-Industry Collaboration.

The European Green Deal is one of the goals that MİTTO attaches importance to. It is aimed to produce R&D and innovative projects to achieve green agreement policies that aim to make Europe climate neutral by 2050. We contribute to the development of projects in the fields of clean energy, sustainable industry and sustainable transportation vehicles among these policies.

 

Technology Transfer Office (TTO)

Marmara TTO, which was established as a subsidiary of Marmara University, a Research University, aims to develop technological knowledge, products, processes and systems, to increase product quality and standards with innovations in products and production methods, to increase efficiency, to reduce production costs, to commercialize technological knowledge, to support intensive technology production and entrepreneurship, to ensure the adaptation of small and medium-sized enterprises to new and advanced technologies, to carry out technology transfer activities and to carry out projects that will accelerate the entry of foreign capital into the country that will provide advanced technology, with the aim of providing cooperation between the University, research institutions and organizations and the production sector in order to provide the country's industry with an internationally competitive and export-oriented structure. Marmara TTO - MİATT A.Ş is an innovative and global organization that provides consultancy services in the fields of projecting, developing, transforming into products and commercializing not only the services and technologies developed at Marmara University but also other national and international innovative ideas. Marmara TTO - MİATT A.Ş. continues its activities with its service and quality approach, which it has developed by focusing on our country's Science and Technology Industrial policies, EU Green Economic Growth Targets and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with its expert staff, laboratory and prototyping equipment, and academic knowledge.

IEEE Marmara University Student Branch

EEE Marmara University Student Branch was established in 2009 within Marmara University to support innovation-oriented technologies and produce projects in this field. Since its establishment, it has taken an active role not only in technical projects but also in social responsibility projects, and has organized important events throughout the university and Turkey. The club aims to not only develop the technical knowledge and skills of its members, but also to strengthen their social aspects. In this context, it cooperates with 109 IEEE student branches in Turkey to produce joint projects and to share information with students from different universities. IEEE Marmara has become one of the leading student clubs of Marmara University not only in technical fields but also with its studies aimed at personal development. While the members of the club have the opportunity to develop their technical knowledge and experience gained at the faculty of engineering, they also strengthen their skills such as teamwork, leadership and communication by taking part in social responsibility projects. IEEE Marmara, as one of the largest student clubs of Marmara University Faculty of Engineering, works with global committees such as CS (Computer Society), EMBS (Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society), PES (Power & Energy Society), RAS (Robotics and Automation Society), WIE (Women in Engineering). The club organizes summits, social activities and development-oriented events for engineering students, and has been bringing students together and supporting them for over 15 years.

Marmara University Incubation Center

As MxStartup - MxIncubation, the Entrepreneurship and Incubation Services Brand carried out within Marmara University, it is aimed to increase the internal entrepreneurship of our university and to create an entrepreneurship culture by carrying out events, meetings, seminars and conferences aimed at entrepreneurship in order to spread the entrepreneurship culture. Undergraduate and graduate students, researchers and academicians are guided to the current opportunities by instilling the concept of entrepreneurship. It supports innovative and technology-based commercializable initiatives with mentoring, training, consultancy and funding support services.

Marmara University Technopark

Marmara University has started its activities to open a technology development zone in line with the entrepreneurial university model of the 21st century, which contributes to our country's R&D activities, and established Marmara University Technopark in 2014. Technopark continues its work to become an international cooperation center that takes part in all stages of the process of transforming new ideas into value-creating outputs. Marmara University Technopark, which started operating in Marmara University Göztepe Campus in 2014 and continues to grow in line with the principle of sustainable development, started its activities in Marmara University Başıbüyük Campus at the beginning of 2020. Marmara University Technopark hosts 52 R&D companies conducting R&D studies in many sectors such as software, information and communication technologies, telecommunications, electronics, pharmaceuticals, machinery and equipment manufacturing, chemistry, aviation, energy, defense industry, food, health technologies, and biotechnology.

Marmara University, which requested the energy distribution company SEPAŞ to send energy from renewable power plants, received the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) certificate, which ensures carbon emission reduction in accordance with world standards. Thanks to this sensitive attitude towards the environment, Marmara University has helped reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent.

The aim of our event is to draw attention to climate change, one of the biggest problems in today's world. We aim to raise awareness about climate change and share ways to combat climate change. The target audience of our event is everyone who wants to learn about climate change, especially Marmara University students.

Students came together with companies and expert speakers in energy sub-fields such as natural gas, energy distribution, hydrogen storage, etc. At this summit, participants had the opportunity to observe the energy sector from different perspectives.

Green Chemistry is a new principle based on a dozen principles, including solutions that will eliminate existing pollution problems. Our aim is to prepare Chemistry and Chemical Engineering students for the developing and growing Chemistry sector while protecting our nature. In this context, it is aimed to convey Green Chemistry and its principles to the participants one-on-one by experts in the field.
