AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

Between 2000 and 2016, the number of people with electricity increased from 78 to 87 percent, and the numbers without electricity dipped to just below one billion.

Yet as the population continues to grow, so will the demand for cheap energy, and an economy reliant on fossil fuels is creating drastic changes to our climate.

Investing in solar, wind and thermal power, improving energy productivity, and ensuring energy for all is vital if we are to achieve SDG 7 by 2030.

Expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology to provide clean and more efficient energy in all countries will encourage growth and help the environment.

7.2. Significantly increase the share of renewable energy in global energy resources by 2030

7.2.1. Share of renewable energy in total final energy consumption

EVIDENCE:

  • The opening of the “Wind Energy and Virtual Experience Center” organized by Marmara University and Nordex Energy in collaboration took place on Wednesday, June 5th at the Marmara University Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Complex, Faculty of Technology. Designed to provide students with practical experiences on wind energy technologies, the laboratory is designed to be open to many application experiences with a wind turbine prototype, virtual reality glasses, simulations, real components and interactive educational materials.

  • In 2022, a 1.2 kva solar power plant was built within the scope of the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Social Complex 1st stage.
  • The total amount of investments made to ensure energy efficiency in 2022 is 500,000 TL.
  • Göztepe Campus, whose reinforcement project was prepared within the scope of the “Earthquake Resistance and Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings Project (SREEP)”, Prof. The acquisition of Nihad Sayar Building (School of Foreign Languages), Faculty of Engineering A Building, Faculty of Technical Education (Mechatronics) and Atatürk Faculty of Education (Main Building) Buildings has been ensured. The project, which was signed between the Republic of Turkey and the World Bank on 07.09.2021, is guaranteed by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, and implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. The tender process of the work included in the investment program within the scope of this project is about to be completed. Our university continues the necessary work with determination to increase the structural performance of its buildings with low earthquake resistance and to minimize the risk against the expected Istanbul Earthquake. Energy efficiency applications will be made in the said buildings within the scope of the Earthquake Resistance and Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings Project (KADEV) in 2024.
